MCDONOUGH, GA -- Ronald "Tylon" Redmond is a 6-2 Combo Guard from Riverdale, Georgia. He's a rising senior at Eagle's Landing High School, and runs with AJ Bouye Elite on the AAU circuit. Redmond is the teammate of RPN athlete, Jaden Davenport, who was a part of the Spring 2022 class.

We all know the typical southern guard. Athleticism across the board, can score aggressively from all three levels, plays strong above the rim, etc. It's a mix of football and basketball, but if you know what I mean, then you truly know what I'm talking about *laughs*. But, bringing the focus back, Redmond joins a well rounded RPN Factory South class.

Standing at 6-foot-2, the young man plays a lot bigger than he is. Redmond has a very poised, but aggressive game where he's efficient in his mid range game, a tenacious on-ball defender, and playing above the rim with a high motor. Every clip or possession I see of him in the game, dude is flying from end-to-end. Gets a steal, it turns to a flush on the other end. Overplaying him, it turns to a blow-by. Too much cushion, a Kawhi mid-range in your eye. The main highlight to me of his game is how competitive he can get. Having a kid with those traits relieves so much work off of you as a coach. You can't tell them *I can't type that* besides 'To get after it.' I believe Redmond will be a joy for any coach at the next level as his game is improving by the year, he's very well spoken, and has high character.

What has been on Redmond's mind lately though? Hopefully all of your questions will be answered.

I caught up with the 2024 prospect in an interview on his junior campaign, offseason and preparation heading into the last chapter.

Tylon Redmond Interview
When did you first start playing basketball?
  • "I first started playing basketball when I was 3. I played all the way until I was 7, then decided to play baseball. After playing baseball for a year, I realized at a young age it wasn’t for me. At that time I reverted back to basketball, and haven’t looked back ever since."

Describe your game from the skill standpoint.
  • "I would explain my game as an athletic playmaker. I feel as if it’s imperative to get your teammates the ball no matter what, but for me I love to use my athleticism to blow by and elevate over defenders. In conclusion, an athletic guard that can pass jump, and flourish from the mid range area."

How was life growing up in Clayton County?
  • "Life was pretty decent. I have a great mom and dad who always kept me in pretty decent areas. Growing up in the area I did, it was pretty chill. I knew at a young age what I wanted in life, so I stayed out of trouble. Sport scene wise, nobody growing up was making any noise honestly. But, socially growing up it was great, and especially when I was playing ball back then."

Eagle’s Landing is one of the premier teams in the state. Year in and year out producing excellence. From your perspective though, how was your junior season?
  • "My junior season was 'okay'. I didn’t play as much as I would’ve liked, but going to state this year was another great team experience. We’ve been the last 3 years, but only won my 9th grade year, so going again this year was immensely exciting."

You’re still at a very early stage of your career. What kinds of things are you doing to make yourself the best player you can be?
  • "Keeping my body healthy. By doing the small things to make sure my mechanics are always on point, and definitely eating healthy. It's like the saying, 'When you feel good, you play good.' I have intense training with a plethora of burn out reps. I’ve been working on my dribbling immensely and small, but effective moves to get downhill. Shoutout to Jordan Coleman and Next Play 360 training for working with me."

Who is your favorite player and why?
  • "Russell Westbrook for sure. He brings the intensity every time he steps on the court. He's a dawg, and ever since I was young, I respected his athleticism to the fullest."

Who would you consider your role model?
  • "My dad because his work ethic is unmatched. There's always been no complaining, and no excuses with him."

As you’re now at the age where you’re starting to look for college opportunities, what do you ideally look for in a college?
  • "Opportunity and room to grow. School wise it doesn't matter as much, but as long as it's somewhere where I’m allow to make mistakes, and build from them."

What are your expectations heading into the last chapter?
  • "I expect the most out of myself before anything. To showcase my athleticism and, skill to the max. We’re young this year, so I definitely want everyone to be on the same page. Importantly more over. I want to push the younger guys to step up to fill in some key roles to our success."

Thank you Red for taking the time to talk with me. Do you have any words of encouragement or motivation? Any last words?
  • "Just stay disciplined. That’s going to take your far. With discipline things like focus trails behind. Discipline is the root to success in my opinion, but hat’s all for now. I appreciate you 10 times more for doing this!"
